Hello and Greetings!

Greetings fellow seekers of the light! I am fairly new to the golden dawn only having been practicing for a little over a month, but been reading about occult literature and contemplating my spiritual path for about 2 years. I am only in my late teens so I am probably younger than most of you, but I consider myself very mature for my age. My magical text that I am currently reading and practicing is Self Initiation to the Golden Dawn Tradition and I am loving the system. One of my goals in life is to join a Golden Dawn Order. One of the things I find fascinating are the similarities between SL MacGregor Mathews and myself. I, like MacGregor, am a vegetarian, anti-vivisectionist, a withdrawn person, and have strong interest in magick and the theory of war.

Well that's probably enough about me, now that I have probably bored you all to tears. I hope to meet some new people on this forum in addition to learning more about the Golden Dawn.

You also have to remember that Mathers was a delusional alcoholic with megalomaniac tendencies and a strange skirt fetish. He also suffered from delusions of grandeur and reportedly didn't have sex with his wife.

I wouldn't put anybody on a pedestal, we're all flawed human beings.

I never knew many of your claims about Mathews; can you provide a source to verify these?

Anyways these similarities are purely coincidental, not because I am attempting to follow every little thing Mathers did. I stated them because I found them both odd and informative, not because I wished to better myself by comparing myself to Mathers.

If you check any of the history books on the Order you'll find plenty of information to verify many of Simon's claims. Mathers contributed a lot to the GD, but he was far from perfect.
